Weird random facts.

I was reading some weird facts, and I thought that I should share some with you.

1) Banging you head against a wall can burn 150 calories in an hour.
                              

2) Kangaroos can not jump if their tails are lifted off the ground.
                      

3) Bananas are curved because they grow towards the sun.
                         

4) The man who invented the Frisbee was cremated and his ashes were made into a Frisbee.

A tribute to my childhood.

Lately I've been going into nostalgia about all the great things that I had or did as a kid. The older I get, the more I fondly remember little things that probably aren't as great as I remember them.

1) Betty Spaghetty
                                     
Betty Spaghetty, the doll you can take apart everywhere and put back together! I had a Betty Spaghetty when I was little, and it had to be my favorite toy, I remember hiding her in my closet so that my sisters wouldn't play with her. I was going to buy an original Betty a while ago, as a sort of novelty, but the originals are crazy expensive, some up to $100.00. I, in no way have that kind of cash. So if you happen to have an original Betty Spaghetty lying around, I would love it!

2) Thundercats.
                          
This is honestly a TV show straight from the 80's. I wasn't around then, but my dad was, and so I think in a way to connect to his five daughters, he let them watch his old favorite cartoon. And it worked, all five of us slept, ate, and breathed Thundercats. Thundercats is probably 100% better in my memories than it is in real life. I was going to by the first season, but I couldn't really find it at a convent price or place. I was also going to be the figurines from the show, but once again, over $100.00.

3) Star Wars.
                       
I know that Star Wars is still a thing, and that they are still making movies, but it is different now than it was when I was a kid. I remember watching Star Wars for the first time, and instantly falling in love with it. I also remember getting really excited for episodes 1-3, and being able to watch them in theater. The Mooradian kids got so into Star Wars that we had our own characters, with our own species, our own lightsabers, and the such. I wrote George Lucas letters almost every day begging him to let me be in the movies. Unfortunately I never got any letters back from him. If anyone happens to know George Lucas, give him my name! :)

4) Beanie Boppers.
                          
Much like the more commonly known Beanie Babies, Beanie Boppers were the thing in the 2000's. We didn't go crazy like most people did with Beanie Babies, we never bought over 10, but each girl had one Beanie Bopper that slightly resembled them. The ones above are actually the ones I had, how the first one resembled me I don't know, ask my parents.

5) Silly puddy.
                           
I know that Silly puddy is still a thing too, but I remember having so much fun with the original silly puddy, my sisters and I would stick it to newspapers and watch the ink stick to it, we would also throw it on the wall and see if it would stick. There is nothing like good old fashioned silly puddy.

6) Mini Polly Pockets.
                           
If you grew up in the 90's you more than likely had one or two of these mini Polly pockets. Us Mooradian girls LOVED them, and unfortunately we only had one, so we were forced to share one Polly Pocket between five girls.

If I could, I would go back to being a kid, everything was so simple and fun. If only I could be little forever.

Salvation Sunday: The Clonmacnoise monastery in Ireland.

Recently, I was asked to write a paper about a shrine I would like to visit. I didn't really find a shrine, but a whole Monastic settlement. The Clonmacnoise monasteries in Ireland.
                          
As you can see, these monasteries are breathtakingly beautiful, but I noticed one sad element, the abandoned falling buildings. On the settlement are 8 buildings, surrounded by a cemetery, lush green grass, and beautiful blue water.  The monastery was founded in 544 A.D by Saint Ciaran. Many kings and noblemen sought sanctuary and were buried there. Noblemen sent their sons to be educated by the monks, and some eventually became monks themselves. Today the abandoned buildings are open to the public, although a fee was put into place to tour the buildings. The really sad part to me is that it feels like a price is put on Catholic churches that should be open to all. Another sad factor is that people just let their sheep and cows walk around, graze, and do their business in the sacred buildings.

                         
I guess the point I am trying to make is that the people of Ireland have given up their rich heritage and faith for profits and worldly goods. But it isn't just the people of Ireland, it's almost everyone.  If we look around, and dig a little, we will see so many countries full of a rich heritage and faith that was cast aside or forgotten; our own countries included. Although it's hard, change starts with us and we are the people that have to start making changes, finding our rich heritage and stopping from giving into worldly, ungodly pleasures.

Walking through Midnight Mass.

It's a new Mooradian tradition to go to Midnight Mass, let me tell you how it goes.

You walk into Church, all the lights are out and you see the decorations.
                        
It's all so amazingly beautiful!

You are there an hour or two early because we have to have good seats, so now you wait and wait, and wait.
                       

The priest comes in, the song starts and it seems like nothing could be more right in the world right now.
                     

Pretty soon a little sibling or two is asleep, so you have become a headrest.
                  

It's past Midnight and you are straving.
                           

You get home, the kids are in bed, but it's to early in the morning to fall asleep, so you just watch a movie until the kids do wake up.

But in the end, it is all worth it, every bit of Midnight Mass is glorious, it gives you enough fuel to face the coming day, I mean coming year.

Christmas Eve: What to expect this Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
                               
Man I wish that my Christmas Eve's went like the poem, but they don't. Christmas Eve's at the Mooradian house are pretty crazy. The kitchen is full of delicious smells and messes of dirty dishes.
                                       
Gifts are hastily being wrapped, it's not too pretty, but it works we still love opening the gifts the next day.
                                       
Naps are being taken so that we all stay awake during midnight Mass.
                            
Outfits are picked out for Mass, discarded, picked out, discarded, and then picked out again, just to be thrown into the closet, and finally the perfect outfit is picked out.
                           
Presents are put underneath the tree, and finally it's time for bed, ( after Mass that is) Everybody bundles up in blankets and pj's all going to the same bedroom for one night a year. So this is how our Christmas eves go.  On to what to expect for Christmas, the gifts and the food it's all great, but it's not what Christmas is all about.  There is one thing to remember for Christmas and that's Christ.

                       
Christmas is all about Christ's birth, His coming into the world and saving us all. The only happiness one can find on Christmas is through the Savior of the world. Tear into your gifts, and your food, but give thanks to God for His Son and for your blessings, and your family.

When a new episode( season) of your favorite show doesn't come out, I'm looking at you BBC Sherlock.
                   
              Now I have to wait, and wait, and wait for the next episode.

Watching dozens of episodes/movies back to back.

Coming out of a movie marathon.
             
             I'm pretty sure at least a few years have passed.
